Every level-up in Sephiria lets you take either an Artifact or a Tablet, and most new players undervalue the Tablet half of that choice. Artifacts give you the effect; Tablets are what make that effect big. A Tablet occupies a cell on your inventory board and levels up the Artifacts it covers — each one projects its effect in a specific direction and distance.
Those coverage patterns are the heart of the mechanic. A tablet like Foundation projects horizontally across its row; Conviction covers a tall column of five cells above it; Vigilance reaches both the top and bottom of its column and cannot rotate. Some tablets forbid rotation (marked "Cannot rotate"), so you must plan your board around their fixed orientation rather than forcing them to fit.
And before you plan around them too deeply, remember the scope: Tablets are part of the current run, not permanent progression. When a run ends the grid resets. The progression that carries between runs is the Destiny Inscription, bought with sapphires. Treat Tablets as the strongest lever inside a run, and Destiny Inscription as the lever between runs.
How the Grid Works
Your inventory is a board, not a list. Place an Artifact and it holds a cell; place a Tablet and it levels the Artifacts in the cells its effect covers. The practical skill is reading a Tablet's coverage before you commit it.
Coverage comes in distinct shapes. Row and column tablets (Foundation, Simultaneity, Vigilance) level everything along one line, which makes them the easiest to plan around. Tall or diagonal tablets (Conviction at five cells up, Stack reaching up and up-left) hit a narrow, deep area and reward careful stacking. Cross tablets like Miracle cover both a horizontal and a vertical line, and Distribution reaches all four cardinal directions.
Several powerful tablets cannot be rotated, so their coverage is locked to one orientation. If you want that Tablet, you must arrange the surrounding Artifacts to sit where it can actually reach them — plan the tablet's placement first, then build outward.

What a Tablet Is Doing for You
A well-placed Tablet is effectively a bundle of free Artifact levels. Because it levels every Artifact it covers, the smartest play is to let one broad tablet level several Artifacts that matter to your build at once.
This is why board layout outranks any single Artifact pick. Two Artifacts that share a well-covered cell get more value from one good Tablet than they would from a random extra slot. The difference between an average run and a strong one is often simply which cells your tablets are allowed to touch.
Keep this rule in mind when a Tablet and an Artifact both appear: an Artifact adds a new effect, but a Tablet amplifies effects you already committed to. Early in a run, when you hold few Artifacts, an Artifact is often the better pick; once your board has a few core items, a Tablet that levels several of them becomes the better value.
Priority Through a Run
Early in a run you hold almost nothing, so take broad utility tablets and Artifacts that start your direction — a large-coverage tablet levels whatever you add to it for the rest of the run.
Mid-run, once your identity is taking shape, switch to tablets whose coverage fits the Artifacts you actually own. This is the stage where you commit to a cluster: arrange your core Artifacts near each other and slot tablets that cover several of them at once.
Late, the priority flips to the payoff items. If you run Precision, a board full of tablets feeds Ebony Scale's per-tablet Critical Chance directly. If you run a Defense or element build, a tablet that sits over your best leveled Artifacts multiplies the stat those Artifacts already carry.
Synergy Thinking and the Filler Trap
Plan clusters rather than spreading items evenly across the board. A Defense cluster keeps your armor Artifacts together so one Guardian-friendly tablet levels several; a Precision board clusters its crit Artifacts under a Coverage-friendly tablet while leaning on Ebony Scale.
The most common mistake is the filler trap: dropping a low-value Artifact into a cell that a high-value Tablet was about to cover, or taking an unneeded Artifact and blocking the shape you need. Fill the board only once your clusters are placed. A little empty space held in reserve lets you adapt when a strong Tablet or Artifact finally appears.
