Getting Started
Sephiria is a top-down action RPG roguelite from TEAM HORAY. You play a brave bunny descending through a tower to save Bunnyville, fighting through six chapters against 60+ enemy types and 10+ bosses. Every run is procedurally generated, so no two descents play out the same way.
Core Loop
- Pick a Weapon: Choose one of six branches — each has 50+ upgrades
- Descend the Tower: Clear rooms for rewards, Anvil rooms for weapon upgrades, and Enchantment altars to level artifacts
- Level Up: Each level offers an artifact or a tablet — both matter
- Unlock Talents: New Talents open up during each run and shape how it plays
- Face the Boss: Defeat the chapter boss to descend further
- Spend Sapphires: After a run ends, invest in the Destiny Inscription — the only progression that carries over
Combat Basics
Combat in Sephiria is fast-paced and rewards skillful play. Here are the fundamentals:
Movement & Evasion
- Dash: Your primary defensive tool. Has invincibility frames.
- Positioning: Stay mobile. Standing still is a death sentence.
- Cooldown Management: Don't spam dash - time it for enemy attacks.
Attack Types
Each weapon has three attack buckets that scale separately, so upgrades that boost one only pay off on a weapon that actually uses it:
- Normal Attack: Your standard combo.
- Dash Attack: An attack performed out of a dash.
- Special Attack: The weapon-defining ability — the Greatsword's spinning slash, or Sword & Shield's sweeping guard attack. The Dagger is the exception: it uses a Parry and a Fury attack instead.
Weapons Overview
Sephiria features 6 weapon branches, each with its own playstyle and 50+ upgrades. Compare all weapons and attack values →
Sword & Shield
Three-hit combo with a shield you can guard behind. Best starting weapon.
Greatsword
Slow, wide swings and a spinning-slash special. Highest damage per hit.
Dagger
Fastest weapon in the game. Uses Parry and Fury instead of a standard special.
Katana (Blade)
Swaps between Sword and Kick stance; the Kick stance special consumes MP for a wider area.
Crossbow
Ranged damage with pierce. Firing slows you ~40% and an empty magazine leaves you exposed.
Staff
Elemental caster route. Can fire specials regardless of normal-attack delay.
Artifacts & Combos
Artifacts are the heart of build customization. Each run you'll collect artifacts that provide passive bonuses and combo effects.
How Combos Work
Artifacts carry a combo tag, and collecting enough artifacts that share one activates an additional effect. These are the tags in the current catalog:
Sturdy · Guardian · Precision · Ember · Glacier · Frost Relic · Lake · Storm Cloud · Solar Blade · Planet · Wind Song · Shadow · Academy · Alchemy · Companion · Curse · Elemental · Magitech · Mystic · Negotiation
- Matching: Artifacts sharing a tag count toward that tag's combo
- Commit to one direction: a complete smaller combo usually beats a half-built larger one
- Mind the board: an artifact you cannot place well is worse than a weaker one you can
Tablets & Upgrades
Every level-up lets you take either an artifact or a tablet. Artifacts give you the effect — tablets are what make that effect big. A tablet occupies a shape in your inventory grid and empowers the artifacts it touches, so how you arrange the board is part of the build.
Placement Patterns
- Coverage, not adjacency alone: some tablets boost a whole row or column, others only direct neighbours. The Foundation tablet, for example, has to sit at the top of the inventory and then levels up every artifact in that row.
- Preview before committing: use Q and E to rotate and test a tablet's projected area before placing it.
- Leave space: filling every cell early can block a tablet you find later. Stronger tablets often come with dead squares as a trade-off.
What Actually Persists
Tablets and artifacts are part of the current run and reset when it ends. The progression that carries between runs is the Destiny Inscription, which you spend sapphires on after death for health, mana, rerolls and new unlocks. Treat tablets as the strongest lever inside a run, and Destiny Inscription as the lever between runs.
Tips for Success
- Experiment: Try different weapon and artifact combinations
- Focus Synergies: Building around one tag is usually better than spreading thin
- Learn Boss Patterns: Every boss has tells - watch and react
- Upgrade Wisely: Spend sapphires on the Destiny Inscription early — it is the only thing that carries between runs
- Co-op Benefits: Playing with friends makes tough content easier and more fun
